Kingfisher's loss could be JetLite's gain in Indore

Indore: After the debt-ridden Kingfishers decided to suspend its flights connecting Indore, now Jet Lite is also planning to scrap two flights from the city. However, the Jet Lite is also planning to reschedule its flights on the routes which Kingfishers abandoned for want of good passengers occupancy.

The Kingfisher announced to suspend operation from Indore from November 8 to 19. Later the airlines announced that it would scrap operation from Indore for few months. The Kingfishers has suspended Indore- Nagpur and Indore-Goa flights.

The Jet Lite is also following suit. It has almost decided to scrap two of its not- so- profitable flights on Indore-Jodhpur and Indore-Hyderabad routes. The company is plagued by low occupancy in the flights. That is why it decided to do away with these routes. Instead, the company would start operations on Indore-Hyderabad-Vishkhapatnam route.

The Jet Lite has already forwarded an application in this regard to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), according to sources.

The JetLite is also interested in Indore-Nagpur-Goa route after Kingfishers suspended its flight on this route. The Jet Lite also plans to re-route one of its scheduled flights on Indore-Nagpur-Goa route. A company officer informed DNA that a proposal has been sent to Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) for approving Indore-Goa route to the company.

The company is also trying for an alternate but lucrative route of Indore-Mumbai-Goa, the sources said.

A senior officer from a leading airliner told DNA that despite DGCA guidelines for running operations in the routes, most of the airliners are not ready to fly in loss making routes.

"The airliners are already under pressure with shrinking profits and burgeoning cost. So, flying in loss making routes is like suicide," said the officer.

Till recently, there were around 23 flights operating from Indore.
