LONDONDERRY, New Hampshire - Manchester-Boston Regional airport emergency crews are on the scene of a small plane off the side of one of the runways at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Emergency personnel from the airport and Londonderry Fire responded to the incident.

According to the FAA registry based on the tail number, the plane is a Piper Malibu Meridian that landed at 4:16 p.m.

The plane was coming to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport from Olathe Kansas, New Century AirCenter.

Airport management reported that there were no injuries to anyone on the plane, and there was no impact to normal airport operations.

Radio broadcasts indicated that emergency response crews were mitigating hazards from a fuel leak that was stopped.

Federal authorities gave clearance for the plane to be removed from the runway.

The plane was lifted by heavy equipment and brought to Signature Air where investigators will examine the aircraft.

No one was injured Tuesday when a small plane went off a runway at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, officials said.

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport Director Ted Kitchens said the plane, a single-engine Piper aircraft, went off a runway while landing around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

“There were no injuries reported, no impact to operations, and the airport remains open and operating normally,” said Kitchens.

Crews responded and were examining the aircraft, which came to rest in a grassy area off to the side of the runway, Kitchens said.

The aircraft was towed for further investigation by the FAA.

No fuel spill was reported or observed, despite social media reports to the contrary.

Kitchens said airport officials didn't want to speculate why the plane went off the runway, but federal officials with the FAA and NTSB have been notified of the incident.

The runway had reopened by 8:30 p.m., Kitchens said.

Kitchens said he was unsure how many people were on the plane went it went off the runway.

Sanroman

12:45 p.m. update: Jose Sanroman IV has posted bail, county jail records show.

*****

A 24-year-old man who reportedly crashed into patrol vehicles early this morning, Wednesday, January 20, remains in custody at the Cooke County Jail.

Texas Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Tackett said troopers were notified of a crash “involving several police units” around 12:27 a.m. Wednesday on I-35 near the 498 mile marker.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jose Sanroman IV of Progreso was traveling south on I-35 when he drove past a roadblock and struck a Gainesville Police Department vehicle. The GPD unit slid into a Department of Public Safety unit, Tackett, a DPS spokesman, said.

“Sanroman continued south then drove into the center median where his 2018 Chevrolet pickup got tangled in the cable barrier,” a release from Tackett states.

No one was injured.

The roadblock was there because law enforcement was working a plane crash on the highway that occurred hours before.

Tackett said troopers were requested to respond to a plane crash on I-35 near mile marker 495 at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Ivan Martinez of Tucson, Arizona, was flying a 1969 Cessna 150J east when the plane had an engine failure, according to Tackett.

The passenger, Sergio Guardado, was a pilot with more experience, he said. Guardado took evasive action, flew under the U.S. 82 bridge and landed in the southbound lanes of I-35.  A southbound truck tractor with a semi trailer struck the left wing of the craft, causing minor damage to both vehicles, according to a press release from the Texas Highway Patrol.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

Tackett said about a mile and a half stretch of the interstate was closed for around three and a half hours. However, traffic continued as usual on the service road, he said.

The plane was towed from the scene and the crash will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, Tackett said.

Elizabeth Isham Cory, a FAA spokeswoman, said the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, as well. Cory said the NTSB will be in charge of the investigation.

Sanroman was booked into jail for driving while intoxicated. His bond was set at $2,000, jail records show.

Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General aviation - Instructional

On January 19, 2021, about 1055 eastern standard time, an American AA-5, N5880L, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Leesburg, Virginia. The flight instructor and student pilot were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14?Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight.

The flight instructor stated that while flying direct to Leesburg Executive Airport (JYO), Leesburg, Virginia, in smooth air in a slight descent at 1,500 to 1,700 ft mean sea level while below the yellow arc indicated airspeed, he felt a large shock to the airplane, which began shaking, buffeting violently and loudly. The control yoke was also shaking violently, left and right, fore and aft, and the airplane was pitching up and down. He took control of the airplane from the student and initially thought there was an engine issue. He applied carburetor heat, reduced the throttle to idle and slowed to the airplane’s best glide speed, which was 80 mph, and executed the engine failure checklist from memory. He circled left looking for a suitable field in which to perform an emergency landing and declared a mayday three times to the air traffic control tower at JYO. Both occupants identified several possible landing spots, but he added power and was informed by a pilot who was flying off their right wing that their elevator was “flapping in the wind.” He flew to JYO accompanied by the chase airplane again declaring an emergency with the JYO air traffic control tower. The flight was cleared to land on runway 17, and both prepared for landing. He flew a straight-in approach and when near the runway reduced power to idle and attempted to roundout and land normally, pulling the control yoke. The nose pitched down very quickly, striking the runway skidding on the nose landing gear and propeller. After coming to rest the airplane was secured and both occupants exited it.

Postaccident examination of the airplane revealed the left elevator was partially separated, with the outboard portion of it well below the position of the horizontal stabilizer. The airplane was secured pending further examination of the elevator primary and secondary flight control system.
