Two men walked away with minor injuries from a small plane crash Thursday night in Laurel, according to authorities.

Yellowstone County Sheriff's Capt. Kent O'Donnell said the pilot of the Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee B had problems with the plane shortly after takeoff from the Laurel Municipal Airport.

The pilot experienced problems with the plane shortly after takeoff and tried to turn around and make it back, O'Donnell said.

He realized he couldn't make it and made an "emergency crash landing" in a field south of the Laurel cemetery, O'Donnell said.

Responders were called to the scene just after 5:30 p.m. Both men got out of the plane on their own and drove themselves to a local hospital, O'Donnell said.

The crash did not slow traffic or cause any other disruptions, according to O'Donnell.

Emergency personnel are responding to a small plane crash south of the cemetery in Laurel Thursday night.

The crash site is in a field less than a mile away from the Laurel Municipal Airport.

It's not immediately clear if anyone is injured, or how badly.

Yellowstone County sheriff's deputies, Laurel volunteer firefighters, Laurel police and Montana Highway Patrol troopers have responded. Laurel police and state troopers left the scene within an hour of arrival.

TOWN OF HARMONY, New York  — The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating a plane crash in the Chautauqua County town of Harmony.

According to the Sheriff's Office, crews were called to the scene on Baker Street Extension just after 11:00 pm on Thursday.

Investigators say the two people on board were conducting training exercises when their plane lost power and crashed in a wooded area.

The pilot, identified as 63-year-old Lawrence Zupon and his passenger, 25-year-old Daniel Rossi, both of Ohio, were treated on-scene before being taken to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania.

7 News had a crew at the scene who spoke to officials who said the scene has been secured and they are waiting for the FAA. Officials said the pilot may have been trying to reach a private landing strip. The pilot and the passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries to their faces.

Two people were reported to be injured late Thursday when the small plane they were in went down in the backyard of a home on Baker Street Extension in the town of Harmony.

The crash occurred a little before 11 p.m. at the home of Jamie King, who said her husband heard a “loud noise” and woke her up.

“We looked in the backyard (and) saw a man walking in the backyard,” King told The Post-Journal. “He told us his plane crashed and asked to call 911.”

King said both occupants of the plane were men and noted they were “walking and talking” after the crash. The severity of their injuries wasn’t immediately known, though two medical helicopters were requested.

Several first responders, including firefighters from Panama, were at the scene into the early hours of Friday.
