Beech S35 Bonanza, N5696K: Incident occurred August 30, 2022 near Spinks Airport (KFWS), Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas

https://registry.faa.gov/N5696K

A pilot is OK after making an emergency landing in the grass off Chisholm Trail Parkway in South Fort Worth Tuesday morning.

The Fort Worth Fire Department said the pilot reported an engine failure and was trying to get to nearby Spinks Airport but didn't make it.

The plane came down in a grassy area east of the highway and north of Oakmont Boulevard.

The fire department said the pilot thought about the recent rain and potentially soft ground so he put up his landing gear and did a belly landing. From Texas Sky Ranger, the plane appears to have skidded along the ground before spinning around and coming to a stop.

The plane appeared to be largely intact though there was visible damage to the propeller.

The pilot was OK and did not require medical treatment.

According to the FAA registry, the plane is a single-engine 1964 Beechcraft S35 Bonanza with ownership in Austin.

On 08/29/22 at 12:04 pm, Alaska State Troopers, Mat-Su Fire, FAA, LifeMed, and EMS responded to the Wolf Lake Airport for the report of an airplane crashing into a hangar. Initial investigation revealed Charles Story, age 60 of Utah, was operating an experimental Kit Fox taildragger aircraft when due to unknown circumstances his plane crashed into a hanger on the airstrip. LifeMed was currently at the airfield when Story’s plane crashed and preformed life saving measures until EMS could arrive to the scene. Story was transported to a local hospital with serious physical injury but was in a stable condition.

WASILLA, Alaska (KTUU) - One person was injured in a crash at the Wolf Lake Airport Monday afternoon.

Alaska State Troopers wrote in an online dispatch that 60-year-old Charles Story of Utah crashed into a hangar at the airport at 12:04 p.m. on Monday.

“LifeMed was currently at the airfield when Story’s plane crashed and preformed life saving measures until EMS could arrive to the scene,” troopers wrote. “Story was transported to a local hospital with serious physical injury but was in a stable condition. Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor.”

Troopers wrote that Story crashed his Kit Fox experimental aircraft into the hangar.

According to National Transportation Safety Board, Alaska Region, Chief Clint Johnson, an investigator arrived on scene shortly after the crash.

“We have an investigator on scene there right now,” Johnson said. “It did strike a hangar, so a majority of the airplane is inside of a hangar and there were no injuries on the ground — just the one occupant onboard the airplane.”

Johnson said that Alaska State Troopers, Mat-Su Fire and Rescue, and NTSB all responded to the incident. Troopers included that the Federal Aviation Administration also responded.

BENNINGTON, Vermont — The pilot who crash landed Monday evening in a field near the Bennington airport has been identified as Anthony J. LaFranco, 40, of Saratoga Springs, New York.

Members of the Bennington Police Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department and Bennington Rescue Squad responded to the William H. Morse State Airport around 5:30 p.m. Monday for a report of an aircraft crash off of the runway. Upon arrival, responders found that LaFranco had climbed out of the plane and was bleeding profusely from a significant head injury. The aircraft was in a horse paddock just north of the airport runway, Bennington Police said in a statement Tuesday.

Officers at the scene briefly spoke with LaFranco about the crash. LaFranco reported the aircraft experienced engine failure near the airport, and he attempted to land the aircraft on the runway. LaFranco said he was unable to maintain a proper landing speed and fell below stall speed, causing the aircraft to hit the perimeter fence.

A LifeNet helicopter responded to the scene and transported LaFranco to Albany (New York) Medical Center.

Local officials contacted the National Transportation Safety Board, and after reviewing information from officers and reviewing digital images of the crash, the NTSB authorized removal of the aircraft, to return it to the airport. Bennington Police worked with airport staff late into the evening to remove it.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who might have witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Bennington Police Department at 802-442-1030 or visit benningtonpolice.com.

A former Las Vegas man who died in a plane crash Sunday in Minnesota was scattering his father’s ashes, law enforcement officials said.

Lee Cemensky, 58, was a Las Vegas resident, but he sold his business in February to return to Fifty Lakes, Minnesota. Cemensky owned Brakes Plus at 911 N. Lamb Blvd.

Cemensky was a passenger in an aircraft flown by Douglas A. Johnson, who operated an amphibious aircraft known as “the swan” that catered to tourists and sightseeing in the community of Emily, Minnesota. Johnson also died in the crash.

Lt. Craig Katzenberger of the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office said deputies who responded to the scene on Sunday night learned that Cemensky was scattering his father’s ashes. He described the aircraft as “homemade” and said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash. Initial reports described the plane as an “ultralight.”

Katzenberger said the sheriff’s office investigation is still active.

Lee Cemensky’s father, Leo John Cemensky, died at his home in Fifty Lakes on August 7, according to an online obituary from the Koop Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife Vikki; his son, Jeff (RaNae) Cemensky of Fifty Lakes; one daughter, Desiree Dunham of Elida, Ohio; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Attempts to reach the family for comment have been unsuccessful.

Joseph Hunter, manager of Brakes Plus, said he bought the business from Lee Cemensky on Feb. 28. He said he met him as the business was changing hands, and said he was a “good guy … good to all his customers.”

Lee Cemensky owned the shop for 20 to 25 years, Hunter said, and his customers have been sorry to hear of his passing.

EMILY, Minnesota -- A pilot who gives rides over Minnesota lakes and a passenger were killed when the amphibious ultralight trike they were riding in crashed in north central Minnesota, according to the Crow Wing County sheriff officials.

Authorities identified the victims as 61-year-old Douglas Johnson and a 58-year-old passenger, Lee Cemensky, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Both died at the scene of the crash Sunday in some woods northwest of Emily. Johnson operated the business Fly the Swan.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the 2010 Cygnet aircraft crashed under "unknown circumstances' while attempting to land.

JACKSBORO, Tennessee (WATE) — The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a plane crash in Jacksboro. Campbell County Mayor E.L. Morton confirms the crash was fatal.

The crash took place at the Campbell County Airport, also known as the Col. Tommy C. Stiner Airfield, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.

According to preliminary information from the National Transportation Security Board, an Aeronca 7AC Champion airplane crashed around 12:15 p.m. on Monday. The plane was taking off from the airport according to the mayor.

The pilot who died in the crash was identified as Jimmy Cole.

The airport is expected to be shut down for some time. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.

“We are prayerful for the family of the pilot and we hope to have more information at the conclusion of the FAA and NTSB investigations,” said Morton.

An NTSB investigator is expected to be on the scene late Monday or early Tuesday to document the scene and begin the investigation. A typical NTSB investigation can take 12-24 months to complete and determine a cause, a spokesperson said.

The sheriff’s office is still working to learn more about the crash and keep the site unchanged until the NTSB arrives. WATE 6 On Your Side has a crew on the scene.

Morton added that this is the first crash to happen at the airport since the 1960s.

According to the airport’s website, it is used in a variety of ways, including personal travel on smaller aircraft, business travel, and recreational flying.

High Sierra Aerial Trout Planting 2022

For the first time in years, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is using airplanes to drop fish into lakes for a process called fish stocking.

On August 12, the CDFW posted the video titled “High Sierra Aerial Trout Planting 2022” to its YouTube page. The department announced it has been dropping rainbow trout into lakes in six counties. 26 lakes across Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, El Dorado, Amador, and Alpine counties will be filled with thousands of fish.

In the video, Doug Langley a fish manager from the American River Trout Hatchery said the department is planting fish in these areas “for the people that like to fish remote lakes, that you can’t access by vehicles, to have a fishing opportunity that you don’t normally get.”

This project is the first aerial planting in five years, according to the video. Spokesman Peter Tira told The Sacramento Bee the department couldn’t use the planes until now because of shutdowns during COVID, plane issues, or that planes were being used in other emergencies across the state.

Some of the “typically back country lakes” were historically fishless, said Tira.

In 2010, the department was sued by the Center for Biological Diversity for not properly analyzing how to protect native species in the areas where fish were being planted by CDFW hatcheries. The lawsuit cited the decline of native California amphibians that need fishless, high mountain lakes for survival.

Pre-stocking evaluations are now being done before the department brings hatchery fish into these lakes.

“We don’t just put them anywhere. We make sure these trout won’t present some kind of conflict,” said Tira.

These lakes aren’t the only waterways being restocked this summer.

Even more waterways across the state will be planted with catchable-size trout from CDFW hatcheries, according to the department’s 2022 fish planting schedule.

For years, CDFW hatcheries have been dealing with outbreaks caused by naturally occurring bacteria within hatcheries.

In October, the department announced the Hot Creek trout hatchery faced its second outbreak for the year. The hatchery was able to vaccinate uninfected fish so they could be planted. Vaccinated fish are safe for anglers to catch and eat, according to the press release.

This year, two Eastern Sierra trout hatcheries saw a decline in the amount of fish they could safely plant. In April, the Fish Springs Hatchery lost all of its trout. Approximately 550,000 fish tested positive for the Lactococcus bacteria and had to be euthanized.

Missing a door?

Hello,

A neighbors' tree has this in it (Westlake Village, California).  It looks like a door from a Aeromarine Merlin ... at least the shape of the window looks like it.

Hear of anyone losing a door in flight?

Thanks!
