In what comes as good news for air travellers this fog season, CAT-III operations have been restored on the main runway at IGI Airport.
This means that there will be two runways available for operations when visibility falls below 300m. The instrument landing system had been downgraded a few months earlier since there was some interference with its signals. Sources said that Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL), in consultation with Thales, the manufacturers of the ILS, set up wire meshes near terminal 1D to sort out the problem.
"We earlier thought that the upcoming aerocity buildings and the new cargo terminal were interfering with the signals. However, experts who studied the problem identified some new construction at the low cost carrier terminal and have now fixed it," said airport sources.
