Crews pulled a plane out of White Bear Lake Sunday afternoon after it crashed into the water Saturday. The pilot was treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to officials.

The Ramsey County watch commander says the plane took off from the Anoka County-Blaine Airport Saturday with an unknown destination.

Authorities do not know yet if pilot error or a mechanical error contributed to the crash, but they say the plane’s landing gear was in the down position when it hit the water.

A private salvage crew had been working since 10 a.m. Sunday to pull the plane from the lake and got it to shore mid-afternoon Sunday.

Officials say the pilot of the privately-owned plane, a 70-year-old man from White Bear Lake, can keep his plane after answering some questions regarding the crash.

WATERLOO, Illinois – The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a helicopter crash Friday morning in Waterloo, Illinois.

The crash happened around 9:25 a.m. in a field near Mockingbird Lane in Waterloo. Police tell FOX2 that the pilot got up and walked after the crash.

The helicopter that crashed is believed to be a crop duster. Investigators are trying to determine what led up to the helicopter coming down.

Residents were shocked that this happened in their neighborhood.

“I was downstairs sleeping and I heard something and didn’t think much of it,” said Branden Kopp.

“I was sitting inside back in the den, and I heard a loud thump,” said Chuck Badger.

“I thought I heard some kid racing up and down the street on a motorcycle, and sounded like it blew up. I didn’t think anything of it,” said John Kopp.

Waterloo police and fire crews, in addition to Monroe County EMS, responded to the field near Mockingbird Lane. Authorities say there was smoke, but no flames following the crash. A part of the helicopter ended up in Badger’s backyard.

“Got to looking and could see part of the helicopter, the sprayer, sticking up in the air,” he said. “First time I’ve seen anything like this. I’ve been here 17 years now.”

The pilot remained on the scene after the crash and police say he is cooperating with the investigation.

“It’s just the greatest outcome we could ask for,” said Sgt. Trin Daws with the Waterloo Police Department. “Nobody was injured, and his safety is the most important thing of it and for him to be uninjured is just a blessing,” said Sgt. Daws.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been on the scene today of a deadly plane crash outside of Ute, Iowa.

The investigators spent the day examining the  Air Tractor AT-502A that’s used for agricultural spraying. Yesterday, A 911 caller told the dispatcher a plane had struck powerlines, crashed and caught fire in a roadway Saturday afternoon, according to a news release from the Monona County Sheriff’s office.

They are trying to determine if any outside factors played a role in the crash.

As of now, investigators are uncertain if the plane was flying in a North to South, or an East to West pattern.

Their focus today was spent on ruling out the possibility of a what they called a pre-impact anomaly.

“So what we’re doing right now is the on scene documentation, so really this is the point where we’re trying to get all of the information that we can about what the scene looks like. What angles, what’s down, what we’re doing, so that’s what we’re documenting right now. We’re looking at the airplane is all in tact in one area so we’re not looking at any pieces that came off prior to hitting the power lines.,” said Jason Aguilera, of the NTSB.

Investigators did not let media pass the road block.

Other factors that the investigators will look at include weather at the time of the crash and the amount of experience the pilot had.

The name of the pilot hasn’t been released yet pending notification of relatives.
