Turns out that was not a crash landing at Van Nuys Airport on Tuesday night, despite media reports, videos and photo of a Beechcraft 200 Super King Air belly-to-tarmac.

It was a successful emergency landing, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

“There was no crash landing. After a medevac Beechcraft 200 Super King Air departed from Van Nuys, the pilot reported that the landing gear may not have retracted,” FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said in an email. “The pilot returned to Van Nuys and landed without incident. After the plane had slowed during the landing roll, the gear collapsed. None of the five people on board was injured and there was minor damage to the plane.”

The aircraft is registered to Las Vegas – Lifeguard International Inc. a business that offers medical flight services.

The company did not return call seeking comment.

The Beechcraft 200 Super King Air had just taken off for Las Vegas when the incident occurred, said airport spokeswoman Diana Sanchez.

The facility has two parallel runways, one 8,000 feet long and the other 4,000 feet.

The plane returned to the longest runway but veered off it during the landing roll out.

The shorter runway is not used at night because it does not have lights.

A crane was brought in and the plane was moved to an area near the control tower on the east side of the airport about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. The 8,000-foot runway reopened at 2 a.m.

The Beechcraft 200 Super King Air was moved to a maintenance facility at the airport Wednesday morning.

The FAA is investigating the incident, Gregor said.

VAN NUYS (AP) — A small private airplane with five people aboard had to do a “belly skid” landing at a Los Angeles airport, but only one person had to be hospitalized.

City Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart says the Beechcraft 200 Super King Air had faulty landing gear, and the pilot was forced to land without it on Thursday night at Van Nuys Airport.

Paramedics took one person to a hospital. Stewart did not know the person’s condition.

A small private aircraft carrying five people skidded on its belly while landing at Van Nuys Airport Tuesday night, fire officials said.

Los Angeles Fire officials said that no one aboard was injured in the landing.

The flight was a medical facility transfer, and was completed via ground ambulance after the belly landing.

Fire officials responded at 9:33 p.m. to the airport located at 16461 Sherman Way after the landing gear was "compromised."

Officials said it was a Beechcraft 200 Super King Air, which is a twin turboprop craft that typically seats 10.

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A pilot made an emergency landing Friday afternoon at Tyler Pounds Airport after he experienced trouble with his landing gear.

About 4 p.m., fire department crews and airport officials responded after a report of an aircraft having trouble with its landing gear.

According to an official with Johnson Aviation, a pilot flying a private Beechcraft King Air plane was attempting to land when he noticed his landing gear would not fully extend.

The pilot attempted to burn off fuel before making a hard landing on the plane's belly. The pilot appeared to be in good condition after exiting the plane.

Jenny Wells, spokesperson for the City of Tyler said, "Because the guys in the tower are awesome, they sent him to a runway that we would not need in inclement weather.

Since he landed on that particular strip, no other flights are going to be affected and will land or take off as planned."
