Aircraft: Cessna 150
Injuries: 1 None
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General Aviation - Personal

On November 13, 2019 at 0015 mountain standard time, a Cessna 150 airplane, N704QJ, executed a forced landing following a total loss of engine power shortly after departing the Pinal Airpark (MZJ), Marana, Arizona. The private pilot, sole occupant, was not injured and the airplane sustained substantial damage. The airplane was registered to and operated by the pilot as a 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The flight originated from the Glendale Municipal Airport (GEU) at about 2230, with a touch and go landing at MZJ, and an intended destination of GEU.

The pilot reported that he recently purchased the airplane and the purpose of the flight was to get used to how it handled. The pilot took off from GEU conducted some light maneuvers and conducted an uneventful touch and go landing at MZJ. However, during the initial climb the pilot noticed that the airplane shook when he tried to climb too abruptly. Therefore, he continued a shallow climb and, about 1,500 feet above the ground, the engine quit. He attempted to restart the engine several times, but to no avail. He landed the airplane in a nearby field; during which, it struck an object he could not see because it was dark and it came to rest in a nose low attitude.

The airplane has been recovered to a secure location for further examination.

The pilot reported that during landing at dusk, and into the setting sun, he observed "flat light" conditions. The private dirt airstrip increased in gradient as he landed to the west. About 75 knots airspeed, the pilot increased the flaps, attempted to bleed off airspeed, and touched down. The airplane landed hard, "because I literally did not see it coming." The nose gear collapsed, and the airplane nosed over.

The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing, the lower fuselage and the empennage.

The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

PEMBROKE PINES, Florida (WSVN) - A camera has captured a plane crash at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines that left a student pilot with minor injuries.

As a small airplane prepared to land at the airport on November 12th, the plane could be seen skidding off the runway and toppling to one side on the grass.

Wayman Aviation Academy, the owners of the aircraft, said the student pilot should have performed a go-around, which means he should have aborted the landing and tried again.

The video shows the plane veering left as it landed on the runway, cutting through the grass, going across a taxiway before its propeller digs into the ground, causing the aircraft to stop abruptly.

The pilot was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

He was the only person on board the plane when it skidded off runway 10.

7Skyforce HD hovered over the scene where the plane could be seen resting on its left side.

7News has learned that the student pilot has made a full recovery and has returned to the program where he is learning to become a full-time pilot.
