CANADA: Should businesses go beyond French and English? (Air Canada)

Canada's official languages watchdog has tasked Air Canada to provide better bilingual services.

Official Languages Commissioner Graham Fraser believes the company needs to offer more active engagement for passengers in both English and French to improve their customer service.

The news story already has our CBC community asking if a greater emphasis on the country's two official languages is necessary, or if businesses should accommodate their customers as they see fit.

"I don't think any company, airline, restaurant, etc., should be told what languages they need to provide their services in. If they wanted to offer their services in Chinese only, then that's their decision," says KingRichard.

Jackaranda1 asks, "What about all the other languages on the airline?"

From transit signs in Cantonese to washroom directions en espanol, would you like to see more languages accommodated in Canada?
