Kerrville Municipal Airport/Louis Schreiner Field (KERV), Texas: Officials talk airport governance.

Kerrville officials apparently are reconsidering their plan to let an agreement with Kerr County on managing Louis Schreiner Field expire next month.

The city and county jointly own the airport.

A meeting with city leaders on the issue Tuesday left Kerr County Judge Pat Tinley optimistic that an agreement would be in place on Oct. 1. Without one in place at the start of the fiscal year would dissolve the independent board that runs the airport and result in the termination of Airport Manager Bruce McKenzie, officials say.

Mayor David Wampler, who couldn't be reached after Tuesday's meeting, surprised county leaders Sept. 7 by announcing the City Council wouldn't extend the current agreement, which dates to 2009.

The city had exercised more influence under the prior pact, under which McKenzie was a city employee.

Airport Board President Steve King said Monday that he'd recently met with several City Council members to express concerns about a lapse in the governance agreement.
