Search for missing pilot ramps up. Vanished on Friday evening in southwest British Columbia.

HOPE (NEWS1130) - A large search in BC's Interior is underway as crews search for a missing pilot. He vanished on the way to Kelowna from Langley on Friday evening.

At least nine aircraft will be searching along two different routes starting at Hope because that's where the pilot was last spotted.

Captain Gregory Clark with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says crews searched through the night but the rainy weather may have hampered their efforts.

"Several times a year we can actually get these cases where we don't find anything in the first few days and then [we] ramp up quite a large search."

He says they've had help from military crews as well. "We'll then be deploying a team of military searchers to Kelowna in the next few days to base themselves on that side of things."

Unfortunately, the pilot, who was the lone passenger, didn't leave behind a flight plan. He's in his 60s and his name isn't being released.
