Plane crashes into pond near Elmsdale, Nova Scotia. North of the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

A small airplane crashed Sunday near Elmsdale, N.S., just north of the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

RCMP Cpl. Scott McCrae said the aircraft went down early Sunday afternoon.

Early reports indicated the 60-year-old male pilot was conscious when emergency crews arrived.

He has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.

McCrae said the small plane landed in a pond.
