The Air India (A-I) Express flight from the South Indian state of Kerala, with nearly 150 passengers on board, made an “emergency landing” and was towed to the remote bay. The flight was scheduled to return on Friday at 12:50pm but was cancelled due to the technical snag. The passengers had to wait for more 24 hours to board the plane again.

“We were told that the flight will fly back around 1:00pm but the flight took off at around 3pm. Everyone in the flight is afraid. I am experiencing an unexplainable fear. Everyone on board is praying to Almighty for a safe journey,” Munir Bava, a passenger on board the plane, told Times of Oman, yesterday.

On Friday, one of the passengers said the ACs were switched off an hour before the emergency landing and an announcement was made that the plane was going to make a “risky landing”. The airline officials didn’t provide the details of the technical snag to the media.

“What we came to know is that one of the engines of the plane developed a fuel leak during the flight, when it was half way on its flight to Salalah. So the crew shut down that engine to prevent any further leakage or damage that could have led to a major tragedy,” the passenger further added.
