Rutherford Black says he doesn't think what he did was heroic. Instead, he says it's something anyone would do. Luckily for the pilot of the small plane crash, Black smashed the window and pulled him to safety.
"I saw that it was a huge amount of gas just pouring out. Pouring all over him. Pouring all over me. And I dragged him out, lifted him up and carried him over because I felt like any minute it was going to blow. And I'm just glad he made it," said Black.
The plane landed in the front yard of a home just outside the Quincy airport on Friday. Parts of the plane were scattered everywhere. Black was driving by when he saw the flipped over plane. He pulled over to take a closer look and once he noticed someone was struggling to get out, he immediately ran to help him.
The man Black rescued was 78-year-old Thomas Bowling. Black says Bowling was responsive after he pulled him from the plane, but he could hardly talk he was so shaken up. Bowling sustained serious injuries in the plane crash.
Black only left with a few minor cuts, something he says was well worth it to possibly save someone's life. "Everybody should just try to help each other if we can. If everybody pitches in together and we help one another, everything would be much better," said Black.

GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- Authorities in Gadsden County are on the scene of a small plane crash off of Havana Highway, east of Quincy.
The single-engine plane went down Friday afternoon just southeast of the Quincy Municipal Airport.
Officials say the plane crashed into some trees in the front yard of a residence in the 200 block of Havana Highway.
The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office says one male was aboard the plane at the time and was entrapped when crews arrived on the scene. He was taken to the hospital by Gadsden County EMS as a trauma alert.
Officials say he is at TMH with serious injuries.
The plane, a 2001 Beech Bonanza aircraft, is registered to an individual in Towns County, Georgia.

GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A 78-year-old Tallahassee man sustained serious injuries in the small plane crash near the Quincy Municipal Airport on Friday.
Thomas Bowling, of Tallahassee, sustained serious injuries in the plane accident.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, at about 12:52 p.m. on Friday they received a call of an airplane crash near State Road 12 and Henry Grady Road in Gadsden County.
The Quincy Police Department, Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, Gadsden County Fire Department, and Gadsden County EMS were already on scene when FHP arrived.
Preliminary statements made by witnesses and Bowling indicated the plane experienced a loss of power 600 feet in the air.
The plane rapidly lost altitude, crashing into multiple trees and coming to a final stop in the front yard of a home on Havana Highway.
FHP says there was no damage to the home on Havana Highway, and the only injuries were to Bowling.
Bowling was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and is currently listed as a trauma alert.
FHP states it is unknown if Bowling was wearing at seatbelt.
FHP says they will remain on the scene to assist in the continuing federal investigation.

GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Quincy man is being hailed a hero after pulling a victim from a plane crash.
The small plane crashed into some trees in front of a home on Havana Highway.
That's east of Quincy, near the Quincy Municipal Airport.
The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office confirms one man was taken to the hospital.
No word on his name, or the extent of his injures, although EMS says he was alert and coherent when they were taking him to the hospital.
Sgt. Anglie Hightower says Rutherford Black Jr. pulled the trapped man from the plane.
Black says he would have done what anyone would have done if they saw someone in trouble.
"When I got out, I saw a guy moving inside. So I noticed that it just happened, so I jumped the fence and broke the plexy glass and dragged him out and a lot of fuel was coming out," said Black Jr. "But I dragged him over here in the corner away from the plane. Tried to stabilize him and call 911."
No other injuries are reported.
