Shaw Construction Plans Suing Grand Junction Regional Airport (KGJT)

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The president of Shaw Construction said they plan to sue the Grand Junction Regional Airport after months of non-payment on a $1.2 million bill.

The issue revolves around the construction of the new airport administration building Shaw was contracted to begin back in fall of last year.

Now, the building stands only half-built because the airport made it clear they don't have the money to pay for the work.

Officials with Shaw Construction plan to take the next step of legal action now that they’ve issued a breach of contract notice.

“At this point in time, we've tried talking. We've tried every possible venue. We have talked with the board to understand their problems, their issues, their concerns, and at this point in time, they are really forcing our hand,” said president of Shaw Construction Clark Atkinson. “[We] have no other recourse other than to file suit and pursue legal action.”

Atkinson said they have no other choice because their sub-contractors are asking for payment, and Shaw is essentially footing more than a million dollars of the government project.

The Regional Airport Board did not reply to several attempts to contact them.
