A training session, organised by the Qatar Airways National Scholarship Programme (QRNSP), has been delivered in Doha for its sponsored students and recent graduates enrolled in various schemes in Qatar and abroad.

The training programme, named Ascent to Excellence, provided an overview of the airline industry, interaction with the senior management, and the opportunity to visit one of the global aviation industry’s most exciting projects – the New Doha International Airport (NDIA).

More than 85 participants from QRNSP along with its strategic partners, Qatar Aeronautical College and Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority, attended the two-day course held at Qatar Airways’ headquarters.

The “unique programme” was specifically held during the holiday period to provide students returning from studying abroad as well as those on a break in Qatar, with a rewarding outlook of what to expect when working in the industry.

The training session was developed by a core working group in the airline’s Learning and Development division, and included key speakers from Qatar Airways’ senior management, including an address by Chief Commercial Officer Marwan Koleilat, who spoke about his 30 years of industry experience worldwide.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker said the programme was all about the importance of nurturing future leaders in aviation.

“Qatar Airways is a forward-looking company, and we must empower future leaders by facilitating training programmes and help prepare interns and graduates to become effective managers in the future.

“Today, Qatar Airways has become one of the world’s fastest growing airlines with over 20,000 employees, serving more than 100 destinations with more than 100 modern aircraft, all within just 14 years of this dynamic company’s operations.

“In order for the airline to continue charting this course of phenomenal growth, we encourage Qatari talent to join the airline and contribute to Qatar Airways’ tremendous success as one of the world’s fastest growing airlines in this increasingly competitive aviation environment.

Qatar Airways National Scholarship Programme senior manager Dr Kholode al-Obaidli was enthusiastic about the way the programme had been well received even though it is still in its early stages.

She said: “During the course, it was heartening to see senior executives from the company lead the way and guide aspiring future leaders. All participants were so enthusiastic and immensely appreciated the hands-on aspect, touring the site of the New Doha International Airport, the future home of Qatar Airways.”

In collaboration with General Electric, the airline also recently delivered a Leadership Fundamentals Course in Doha. QRNSP is committed to offering a range of learning opportunities for interns enrolled in post-secondary aviation programmes.

Qatar Airways’ National Scholarship Programme is designed to financially support youth in their post-secondary educational pursuits, with an optional work experience component that provides internships throughout, as well as a rotation programme in the airline upon graduation.
