Macon, Georgia: Man sentenced for selling parts to Iran

An American supplier was sentenced to more than three years in prison for shipping fighter jet and attack helicopter parts to help repair Iran's aging aircraft fleet.  Michael Todd of Macon also was sentenced Wednesday to pay more than $100,000 in restitution.  Todd apologized to the court and said he didn't intend to threaten national security with his actions.  Todd pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to illegally export fighter jet and attack helicopter parts from the U.S. to Iran. A second man, Hamid Seifi of Chicago, was already sentenced to more than four years in prison for his role.

A Perry aircraft maintenance worker was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison Wednesday morning for providing fighter jet and attack helicopter parts to Iran.

Michael Edward Todd, 31, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Macon.

After his prison term he must spend three years on probation, pay a $10,000 fine, and forfeit more than $160,000.

Todd, president of The Parts Guys, pleaded guilty in May to conspiring to illegally export the parts.

A second American supplier, Hamid “Hank” Seifi, was sentenced in June to 56 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for his violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. He also was ordered to pay a $12,500 fine and forfeit $153,950.

Seifi and his Illinois-based company, Galaxy Aviation Services, ordered and purchased parts from Todd and The Parts Guys, which operated out of a warehouse at Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

The parts were ordered on behalf of Hassan and Reza Seifi and their company, Tehran, Iran-based Sabanican Co. The parts then were exported to Iran through a French company, authorities said.

Parts shipped between the companies ranged from bolts and screws to parts for aircraft weaponry. The shipments were worth millions of dollars.
