Commercial pilot convicted of income tax evasion in Memphis, sentencing in February

A Memphis man and FedEx pilot was convicted today on five counts of income-tax evasion for failing to pay more than $250,000 over a five-year period, officials said.

William Boyer was convicted of evading taxes from 2001-2005. He will be sentenced Feb. 3. Each count is punishable by up to five years and a fine of $100,000.

According to officials, Boyer owed a total of $255,606.01 over that time, but paid nothing. He was accused of failing to file a timely tax return, attempting to conceal his income and filing false W-4 forms.

In 2001, Boyer had a taxable income of $160,030.58 and owed approximately $44,531.69 in income taxes.

In 2002, Boyer had a taxable income of $201,869.97 and owed approximately $57,835.98 in income taxes.

In 2003, Boyer had a taxable income of $197,727.52 and owed approximately $42,756.17 in income taxes.

In 2004, Boyer had a taxable income of $222,970.02 and owed approximately $59,060.76 in income taxes.

In 2005, Boyer had a taxable income of $195,219.43 and owed approximately $51,421.41 in income taxes.
