Mexico Military helicopter makes surprise landing at Laredo airport. (With Video)

Just as the drug war continues to heat up in Nuevo Laredo, we receive official confirmation that members of the Mexican military did in fact cross U.S. borders this afternoon, landing at our International airport.

We brought you the story earlier today after our newsroom received calls of people claiming to have witnessed the situation, even saying that six passengers of the helicopter had been detained.

Customs and Border Protection has now released an official statement saying that they, along with the fire department and airport police responded to the landing at the west landing area of the airport, off of Maher Street.

" The Mexican officers apparently inadvertently landed at the Laredo airport after mistaking the landing strip for the one in Nuevo Laredo. Protocols are enacted to address any incident that may occur such as this incursion."

They go onto say that CBP continues to work with and remains in constant contact with law enforcement partners in Mexico to ensure our borders are secure.

In this case, they tell us officers processed the occupants and they along with the helicopter were released without incident.

Just several weeks ago the military also crossed our international bridges, saying they were lost.
