Airport fire truck in deadly crash on way to blaze. In the northern Australian city of Darwin.

An airport fire truck has crashed while racing to fight a fire in Darwin, leaving a man and a woman dead.

One person remains trapped following the crash between the emergency services truck and a four-wheel drive.

Commander Kym Davies from Darwin Police says the airport fire truck was travelling to a warehouse blaze in the suburb of Berrimah, when it struck the ute at an intersection.

"The fire was quite a large fire, and they asked for further assistance from the airport fire service. There was a vehicle, an airport fire service vehicle, travelling along Berrimah Road and unfortunately it hit a utility crossing Tiger Brennan Drive," Commander Davies said.

"Two people were tragically killed and another person remains trapped in the vehicle.

Commander Davies says there were four people in the four-wheel drive.

"At this stage we're unable to ascertain exactly what has happened, it is a tragedy but we're investigating," he said.

"We have our major crash investigators, our major crime people, as well as a number of other investigators at the scene."

Police say the building at East Arm Wharf caught fire this morning and they have put roadblocks in the area.

There are no reported injuries from the fire.

Police say the source of the blaze is not yet clear.
