One killed, one injured in Dutch plane crash in Austria

A small plane crashed in western Austria, killing one person and seriously injuring another, with both pilot and passenger believed to be Dutch, authorities said Sunday.

The two-seater plane, which had Dutch registration and apparently flew in from Italy, crashed Saturday afternoon near Thiersee in Tyrol province, close to the German border.

Rescue services said the crash may have been due to strong fog over the mountains.

Authorities added it was likely the passenger who had been killed, while the pilot was in intensive care in an Innsbruck hospital.

The men were aged 45 and 48 but their identities were still unclear, as police tried to contact their families.
