APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -- It's an emotional day in Gold Canyon as loved ones say goodbye to the three young children killed in a plane crash in the Superstition Mountains Thanksgiving eve.
I sat down with the children's mother, Karen Perry, this week to talk about her children and her future as a pilot.
The investigation into what happened is still underway, but Perry not only lost her three children, Morgan, 9, Logan, 8, and Luke, 6, but also her ex-husband, the kids' father, Shawn Perry, 39.
Two other men, Russell Hardy, 31, and Joseph Hardwick, 22, were also killed in the crash.
Perry said her children were her entire life and reminds herself that they were together when they died and remain together even now.
Perry became a pilot at the age of 19, and was also a flight instructor. She put her piloting on the back burner so she could spend more time with her children. She now works as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, but hopes to get back into the cockpit some day soon.
It is going to be an incredibly difficult holiday without her children, but Perry is asking that in lieu of flowers, people donate children's toys so she can personally deliver them to hospitals around the Valley Christmas morning.
Perry says she's getting through this tragedy thanks to the support and prayers from not only her friends and family but from complete strangers from all over the world.
