Longtime Siouxland aviation historian dies

SERGEANT BLUFF -- Maurice "Maurey" Topf, a longtime supporter of preserving Siouxland's aviation history, died Friday. He was 74.

Topf, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, was one of the leaders in the development of the MidAmerican Museum of Aviation & Transportation at 2600 Expedition Court next to Sioux Gateway Airport. Topf served as its president and director.

He was a member of the Siouxland Aviation Historical Association a past president of Siouxland Chapter 291 of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

A former general manager of Atokad Park Agriculture and Racing Association, Topf was a lifelong Woodbury County resident. In 1992, he made an unsuccessful bid for a seat on the Woodbury County Board.

Topf's funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nativity, 4242 Natalia Way in Sioux City. Visitation is 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil.
