Reunion of Former Pan Am Employees Extends Registration Deadline

MIAMI, Sept. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The registration deadline to attend Pan Am's Worldwide Family Reunion in Miami, Florida has been extended from Sept. 15, 2011 until Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, according to a member of the reunion committee: "Response has been fantastic since first announced this summer; however, global registrations have skyrocketed in recent weeks."

Former employees, friends and family of the former airline, as well as aviation aficionados from all over the globe and every division of the company, are expected to attend the three days of social events, meetings and tours scheduled for October 20-23, 2011 in the Dinner Key/Coconut Grove area of Miami. Attendees of the reunion will be celebrating the Centennial of Aviation in Miami as they honor the enormous part the airline played in shaping aviation history while also marking 20 years since the close of one of the country's most iconic pioneering companies, Pan American World Airways.

Interest in "Pan Am" is at an all-time high. Coming this fall on the ABC network is the highly anticipated television series "Pan Am," and the musical "Catch Me If You Can" is now running on Broadway.

Grounded for 20 years in December, the airline may be gone, but it is not forgotten. The highlight of the reunion will be the signature event, "The Hangar Party," to be held in the historic Coast Guard Hangar on the shores of Biscayne Bay in Dinner Key, which the original Pan Am Clippers once called home during its pioneering days of aviation. Also on the agenda is a visit to the PAA memorabilia store located in the Pan Am Flight Academy near MIA, as well as tours of the special exhibit "Aviation in Miami: The First 100 Years" at HistoryMiami in downtown Miami. In addition, for the length of the reunion, exciting Pan Am theme inspired bestselling authors and speakers will be present at the host hotel; a private viewing of Dinner Key Terminal, now Miami City Hall, is also on the schedule.

The host hotel and co-sponsor of the three-day reunion is Courtyard Marriott - Coconut Grove.

Pan Am's Worldwide Family Reunion will be held in Miami, October 20-23, 2011.

About Pan Am

Pan American World Airways, commonly known as Pan Am, was the principal United States international air carrier from the late 1920s until December 4, 1991. Founded in 1927 as a scheduled air mail and passenger service operating between Key West, Florida and Havana, Cuba, the airline became a major company credited with many innovations that shaped the international airline industry, including the widespread use of jet aircraft, jumbo jets, and computerized reservation systems. Identified by its blue globe logo and the use of the word "Clipper" in aircraft names and call signs, the airline was a cultural icon of the 20th Century and the unofficial flag carrier of the United States.
