Leave of absence cut short for Alberta Aviation Museum executive director

The executive director of Alberta Aviation Museum is back in the pilot's seat -- at least, as far as the museum is concerned.

Tom Hinderks says he hasn't had the time to go flying in over a year. Now, he has been called back to duty early following a brief leave of absence. It was meant to help him recover from 16-hour days at the office.

"About the third week of August, I was called back in with a series of issues that had to be dealt with including restructuring part of our operation, combined with events like the B-25 roll-out, and the current City Centre Airport redevelopment issues," says Hinderks.

He goes on to say he hopes his family will understand, but the museum simply doesn't have enough staff for him to be gone. Meanwhile, he is still not sure how he is going to cut back on his hours, but he is determined to do it.

"It's really hard when you're dealing with a passion and, at the same time, I've got to find a way to balance the passion with the work place with family and with my health, and I haven’t found that balance yet."

Hinderks says he is back for the foreseeable future, but still not sure about his long-term plans.
