Airline passengers were stuck on the Bismarck airport runway for nearly 1 1/2 hours while others were prohibited from entering the terminal building Monday night after reports that a bomb squad had to search the premises.

"The captain said air traffic control said we can't go into the airport because a bomb squad is in there and this is the safest place for us to be," said Delta flight 4621 passenger Jennifer Verleger. She said she and about 50 other passengers on the flight from Minneapolis were calm but they were eager to get off the plane, which had been sitting on the tarmac since approximately 8:45 p.m. Monday.

They were eventually let off the plane shortly after 10:15 p.m.

Airline staff offered passengers free peanuts and eventually free drinks, Verleger said.

"The commander said they (officials) are investigating and checking the credibility of the threat," said Bismarck Police Officer Amanda Hocker. She said no additional information was being released.

Airport security would not comment on the incident.
