Dodge City Commission to look at new option for retaining commercial flights.

DODGE CITY — The Dodge City Commission will take a new look today at options for retaining commercial flight from Dodge City to Denver.

The commission will consider a new proposal from City Manager Ken Strobel, who will recommend the following scenario:

• Ask the federal government to approve American Eagle's proposal for two daily roundtrip flights from Garden City to Dallas.

• Eliminate one Great Lakes flight from Dodge to Denver, freeing up some of Dodge's subsidy under the Essential Air Service program. The savings would be applied to the balance of American Eagle's subsidy requirement.

• Retain three daily flights from Dodge to Denver.

• Ask the feds to reinstate the fourth Denver flight if American Eagle pulls out of the Garden City market.

Stay with the Daily Globe to see how the commission votes during its meeting tonight, which is set for 6 p.m. in the commission chambers.
