PUNTA GORDA, Florida — Allegiant flights were delayed after a wheel collapsed on a private plane at the Punta Gorda Airport.

The wheel was under the nose of a Piper Arrow, single-engine plane, not an Allegiant plane. No one was hurt, according to the airport's media contact Kaley Miller.

The mechanical issue caused Runway 4 to close for about an hour. Miller said the plane has since been towed off the runway.

Two Allegiant flights arriving from Grand Rapids and Indianapolis were temporarily diverted to the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport but were set to arrive at 11:28 a.m. and 11:32 a.m. at the Punta Gorda Airport, according to Miller.

The rest of the day's Allegiant flights are expected to be on schedule.
