MACON COUNTY, Tennessee  —  The Macon County Sheriff's Office said a plane made an emergency landing on Highway 52 in Macon County on Tuesday night.

According to the Macon County Sheriff's Office, no one was injured. 

The Federal Aviation Administrationsaid only the pilot was on board when the plane made the emergency landing onto Hwy 52 West near Fox Run Lane.

The plane landed just over two miles from the airport. 

Hwy 52 was closed in both directions until 7 p.m.

It happened around 5:45 p.m., and the Macon County Sheriff's Office and Lafayette Fire Department were still on the scene around 7 p.m. 

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

LAFAYETTE, TENNESSEE (WSMV) -  Lafayette Fire Chief Troy Brawner says a small plane made an emergency landing on State Route 52 in Macon County just after 6 p.m. Tuesday night, closing the road in both directions. 

Only the pilot was onboard the two-passenger Cessna, and he is not injured. 

Officials say the plane ran out of fuel and was forced to make an emergency landing on the highway.

The road is expected to reopen by 8pm after the plane is transported to a nearby airport.
