Why Raleigh-Durham International Airport (KRDU) is saying 'no' to Uber, Lyft

RDU Airport confirms it received a certificate of insurance from Uber – but says that’s not the only holdup in ceasing a conflict that’s become increasingly dicey over the past few weeks. Nor is it that $125 permit fee, which is required for ground transportation operating at RDU.

Included in the permitting process is a requirement for drivers to use an airport-installed Automatic Vehicle Identification transponder – that tracks and charges a driver for trips to the airport.


Without it, Uber and ride-share companies like it become the only commercial transportation options at RDU not paying that fee.
