Airline account is about to run dry: Jack Brooks Regional Airport (KBPT), Beaumont/Port Arthur, Texas

After more than 18 months of commercial air service from American Airlines at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport under its wings, backed by a minimum revenue guarantee of almost $1.5 million collected mostly from Jefferson County, the city of Beaumont and other local taxing entities, less than $24,000 remains in the account that helps American avoid losses on its flights.

The question of what happens when the money runs out is obvious.

"No one has said anything," said Alex Rupp, Jefferson County's airport manager who also administers the Southeast Texas Coalition for Air Service.
