1941 - Bomber plant bonds approved
Tulsa voters approved a $750,000 bond issue to buy land and pay for water and sewer lines for a $15 million bomber assembly plant that would build B-24s for use in World War II. The bond vote was held the day after an estimated 100,000 people thronged Tulsa Municipal Airport to watch a Consolidated B-24 bomber land with British markings - it was en route to England - land and to get a close look at the type of plane to be built. The bond issue passed by a ratio of 11-1.
