Iran plans to build partially Ukraine Antonov-158

Iran may partially build the Antonov-158 passenger plane jointly with Ukraine, Deputy Defense Minister for Industrial Affairs Mohammad Islami was quoted today by IRIB News as saying.

Islami said this air vehicle with a seating capacity of 100 passengers will be the next generation of Iran-140 airplane. It will be used by the domestic airlines, he added.

Iran purchased a Ukrainian made Antonov 158. It has been successfully tested in Tehran on Sunday. The plane's test flight was made in the presence of Iranian high-ranking officials and Antonov aircraft company CEO Dmitry Kiva.

Islami stressed that Iran may purchase more Antonov-158 planes in the future. "If this plane is in great demand for domestic airplanes, we are planning to launch the joint production of the air vehicles next year," he added.

Antonov-158 has a maximum cruising flight speed of 870 kilometers. Its cruising flight altitude is 11,600 meters and a service range - 2,500 kilometers.
