Full emergency declared at Guernsey Airport (UK)

A full emergency was declared at Guernsey Airport this morning when the aircraft carrying newspapers to the island reported "a smell of burning" in the cockpit.

Firefighters and ambulance crews were scrambled ready to help when the plane touched down.

The alarm was raised by the pilot as the aircraft was flying west of Alderney en route to Guernsey.

The Atlantic Airways service sets off from Bournemouth each morning.

The aircraft landed safely at around 6.15am and nobody was hurt.

Fire crews went on board with thermal imaging equipment and isolated the source of the problem to an avionics fan.

The emergency crews were stood down at just before 6.30am and the morning's flights were unaffected.
