Monsoon: Heavy rains disrupt air service in Mumbai

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Torrential rains today disrupted air service and claimed five lives in Mumbai, while monsoon remained mostly subdued in the northern part of the country.

Delhiites got some relief as rains occurred in several parts of the national capital, where the maximum and minimum settled at 34 deg C and 24 deg C respectively.

Many flights were suspended and diverted at Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai due to heavy rains.

Five teenagers were killed after a wall collapsed in Sewree in south Mumbai following incessant rains in the metropolis, civic officials said.

Meanwhile, major rivers continued to recede in Uttar Pradesh where light to moderate showers occurred in the last 24 hours.

According to a Central Water Commission report, Ganga has started receding in the state barring Ballia.

Day temperature maintained the rising trend in Himachal Pradesh as monsoons remained subdued in the hill state.

Hamirpur was wettest in the region with 38 mm of rains, followed by Nahan 33.4 mm, Rajgarh 25 mm, Palampur 21.2 mm, Kandaghat 20 mm, Khere 15 mm, Bhorang 8 mm, Jubbarhatti 7 mm and Nurpur 5 mm.

The MeT office has predicted rains and thunderstorm at isolated places during the next 48 hours with no appreciable change in temperature.

Monsoon remained active in east Rajasthan during the past 24 hours and light to moderate rainfall occurred at many places in Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions during the period.

A few places in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and isolated areas in Bikaner divisions also received rains.

Weather conditions would remain the same during the next 24 hours, the MeT has forecast.
