Concentrating more on training fighter pilots: INS Hansa

Panaji, Sept 3 (IBNS) Indian Navy’s aerobatic aircraft, Sagar Pawan (sea breeze), which crashed into a populated locality at Hyderabad during an Air Show in March 2010, would be replaced by a British plane Hawks Aircraft.

INS Hansa Commanding Officer Ravneet Singh said ever since the fatal crash happened, the aircraft team has not performed any aerobatic shows.

He said Kiran Aircrafts will be used for training the fighter pilots even as Sagar Pawan team, which is an important part of INAS 551 squadron - ‘Phantom’, still exists.

“The team is at present not performing any shows as we are concentrating more on training the fighter pilots,” Singh told reporters during a function on the arrival of a team of trained fighter pilots at INS Hansa yesterday.

He said the fighter pilots undergo basic training with the Indian Air Force.

Reacting to the commissioning of giant western naval base INS Kadamba at Karwar (Karnataka), Singh said INS Hansa will retain its position as an important destination for the Indian navy and that Goans should be proud that INS Hansa is based in Goa.

“All the images of suspected activities is grabbed on the radar and downloaded at INS Hansa and in a Mumbai naval base,” he said.
