Leak of flight information: 2 Belgians arrested

Leopoldville, Sept. 19: The Congolese government last night arrested two Belgians and three Congolese for allegedly leaking out information of United Nations air flights to the enemy. The arrested persons who were working in the Ndjili flight control and telecommunications department were reported to have passed on information regarding the flight of Mr Hammarskjoeld’s aircraft to the Katanga authorities.

The arrest of these person has added to the surmises here that Mr Hammarskjoeld’s aircraft was shot down, although there will be no official comment on it until this is established by investigation which has already been instituted. On Saturday, authorities here arrested two Belgians for allegedly leaking out information regarding the flight of the UN Forces Commander General Mackeon, who flew to Elisabethville that day. The aircraft was attacked by Katangese jets on the basis of information supplied. Some Belgian officials of the telecommunications department are in hiding fearing arrest.
