Winnebago County one year behind on airport MRO payments

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) --Winnebago County is playing catch up in order to pay the Rockford airport's MRO facility after they discover they're a year behind in payments. The Rockford airport’s chief financial officer recently contacted Winnebago County to make them aware that they are behind on four quarterly payments of $141,000 related to the MRO facility.

The Economic Development Committee discusses tonight how they think they should work to get back up to speed and catch up on what would be one full annual cycle of payments. Members say they are close to an agreement on how they plan on spreading out those expanded payments within the next three fiscal years. They're working to get a payment together before September 30th.

"It was critical that they were aware because it is a fact that given that we will have to make expanded payments in 2018 and 2019, depending on how they decide to allocate those funds it could impact what we put into other things in the community,” said Winnebago County administrator Amanda Hamaker.

Hamaker says this is the only time an issue like this has occurred that she is aware of. She believes there could have been a discussion by the previous administration related to deferring the payments and that may be the cause of the delay.

Hamaker also says they will have another discussion with the county board to make sure they understand what is happening and to ensure that they are being transparent with everything regarding the fees.
