ViaAir has 1st anniversary at Raleigh County Memorial Airport (KBKW), Beckley, West Virginia

ViaAir celebrated its first anniversary at Raleigh Memorial Airport Thursday. Over the past year, the airline based in Maitland, Fla., has added destinations and increased bookings from the local air facility.

Just after announcing twice-weekly flights to Charlotte, N.C., ViaAir officers announced a second destination to St. Augustine, Fla., and later added Myrtle Beach, S.C.

ViaAir’s digital marketing manager Janelle Davis said other locations are in the works, based on the success of those two flights. She said the airline will also continue with plans to construct a maintenance hangar at RMA.

Davis said the Raleigh County community has been “overwhelmingly positive” in its acceptance of a new carrier.

“The responses have just been wonderful,” she said.

RMA manager Tom Cochran agreed that the change to ViaAir has been a good one for the local airport.
