Air defense exercises will be conducted near the Columbia and Florence Airports on Wednesday.
According to Sr. Master Sgt. Ed Snyder of the South Carolina Air National Guard, the exercises are routine for fighter jets assigned to the 169th Fighter Wing and they could be seen escorting a single-engine aircraft belonging to the SC Civil Air Patrol between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Snyder says the exercise has been coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure rapid response capabilities associated with the state's Air National Guard Aerospace Control Alert Mission.
Officials note that most of the flying activity will not be seen from the ground.
