Blue Angels returning for Chippewa Valley Air Show in July

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels confirmed Tuesday they will be headlining the 2015 Chippewa Valley Air Show next July.

Visiting members of the Blue Angels military jet performance team told local organizers they will perform for the air show July 4 and 5 at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, said Matt Hill, executive officer of the Boy Scouts of America-Chippewa Valley Council, which produces and sponsors the event.

“We are ecstatic,” Hill said. “We couldn’t be more excited to make the 2015 air show the best ever.”

The last Chippewa Valley Air Show, scheduled in September 2013, was canceled after the Blue Angels called off their entire 2013 season in response to $85 billion in automatic federal spending cuts as part of what was called sequestration. The action prompted the military to ground all of its jet teams for nonessential flights to ensure adequate resources for the nation’s defense needs.

Chippewa Valley Regional Airport  (KEAU),   Eau Claire, Wisconsin:   Blue Angels flying in area today

Be on the alert: The U.S. Navy Blue Angels in the area today, and are touching down at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport.

The visit is part of an advance group that is meeting with Chippewa Valley Air Show organizers.

Nothing has been officially announced and the Chippewa Valley hasn't been awarded an airshow for next summer. But organizers are exploring that possibility.

The Blue Angels were scheduled to appear here in September 2013, but federal budget cuts grounded the Navy group, and the air show was cancelled.
