Robin DR.400-180 Regent, S5-DEW, Portorož Aeroclub: Accident occurred September 14, 2014 at Divača Airport, in southern Slovenia

A tragic accident happened today at the small sports airfield in Divača.

A small plane crashed, killing three people and injuring one more.

The accident happened immediately after take-off.

The plane caught fire right after the crash.

It was piloted by 41-year-old Aleks Delfin, an experienced pilot from the Portorož Aeroclub.

Police and emergency units are at the site and investigating the incident.

Unofficial reports say the plane didn't have enough airspeed during take-off and hit the ground with its left wing.

Last autumn two other pilots from the Portorož Aeroclub lost their lives in a crash near Kobarid.

Three people were killed and another was seriously injured on Sunday when a small plane crashed shortly after taking off from an airport in southern Slovenia, local police said.

The accident happened at the Divaca Airport, some 80 kilometres (49 miles) south of capital Ljubljana.

The Robin DR400 plane had four on board, state television reported on its website.

"Three people were killed and one is in serious condition.

We can't confirm their identities yet," police spokeswoman Anita Leskovec told AFP,  adding that an investigation at the accident site was under way.

State television said the plane was owned by a local Aero club and was flown by their pilot, who was among the victims.
