Airport Day Returns - Event to celebrate aviation, benefit Talbot Mentors: Easton/Newnam Field (KESN), Maryland

EASTON — Billed as “a celebration of flight to benefit Talbot Mentors,” the sixth annual Easton Airport Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at Easton Airport/Newnam Field.

With free admission and parking, Easton Airport Day will have activities for the entire family. This year’s event is expected to be the best yet — including a jet pull competition, introductory flying lessons and Warbird Formation flyovers throughout the day. Displays of unique aircraft and classic cars also will be onsite.

Two local flight schools will be attending Easton Airport Day and offering plane rides. These items require advance sign-up. Contact the schools directly for more information: Easton Aviation LLC at 888-454-5909 or Trident Aircraft at 410-604-1333

The jet pull competition is back this year, kicking off the day at 9:15 a.m. Teams of three men and three women will pull an F-104 Starfighter that weighs about 10,000 pounds over a distance of 50 feet. The team with the quickest time is the winner. Entry for each team is $150, which includes a T-shirt for each team member.

There will be lots of formation flying during this year’s Easton Airport day, including one to begin the flying demonstrations, followed by the fourth annual Chicken Drop at 12:30 p.m. During the drop, planes will roar down the runway and toss out a rubber chicken in an attempt to hit the target.

Two-person VIP tickets are available for $100 and contain two VIP tickets, preferred parking, attendance at the pilots’ Formation Flying briefing, preferred up-front seating for the fly-over and bombing run, lunch and a tour of the tower. Tickets are not not sold individually, only in pairs.

There also are three levels of sponsorship — $1,000, $500 or $100 — available for Easton Airport Day with various benefits packages attached to each.

Proceeds from this year’s Easton Airport Day will go to Talbot Mentors, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The organization provides services to local children at no cost thanks to the financial support of individuals, area churches, service clubs and business and with grants from local, regional and national foundations.

Easton Airport Day is a component fund of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. A public charity, Mid-Shore Community Foundation helps individuals, families, businesses, private foundations and others accomplish their charitable giving objectives.
