Accident occurred June 18, 2014 in Bayview, Cameron County, Texas

BAYVIEW, Texas – Two passengers on board of a small plane are lucky to be alive tonight after the aircraft went down this afternoon in Cameron County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the plane crash which happened around 3:30 pm in an open field near Bayview.

DPS tells Fox 2 News, the plane went down on a federal refuge on Buena Vista between FM 510 and county airport after missing the runway.

The two persons on board suffered lacerations to their faces.

Authorities are not releasing names, but we’re told the victims were taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville for treatment.

The FAA is looking into what caused the crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a small plane crash near Bayview.

DPS received a call about 3:27 p.m. Wednesday afternoon stating a plane had gone down on Buena Vista between FM 510 and county airport in an open field on ranch land.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department told Action 4 News the plane crashed after missing the runway.

State troopers confirm two passengers on board did survive but had multiple lacerations to their faces.

Authorities are not releasing the names of the pilot or the passenger but they did say both are being transported to Valley Baptist in Brownsville for treatment.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to launch an investigation to find out what caused the pilot to crash.
