Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (KDFW), Texas: Runway Closures May Increase Aircraft Noise Over Southlake This Weekend

The City of Southlake has received the following from DFW Airport Noise Office:

We want to inform you of four (4) planned, short term, runway closures that may affect flights over and near your cities.  DFW’s Runway 18L/36R is planned to be closed in accordance with the schedule below for needed reconstruction and expansion work on some taxiway shoulders within the Runway’s environment.  The Runway will be closed for less than 48 hours during each closure.
The following weekend runway closures are scheduled:
    • Runway 18L/36R is planned to be closed from 10:45PM on Friday, April 25, through 06:00AM on Sunday, April 27.
    • Runway 18L/36R is planned to be closed from 10:45PM on Friday, May 2, through 4:00PM on Sunday, May 4.
    • Runway 18L/36R is planned to be closed from 10:45PM on Friday, May 9, through 4:00PM on Sunday, May 11.
    • Runway 18L/36R is planned to be closed from 10:45PM on Friday, May 16, through 4:00PM on Sunday, May 18.
Please note that the forecast weather for this weekend’s closure is predicted to become severe Saturday night with a chance of thunderstorms across much of north Texas.  There will be a chance of some severe local thunderstorms along and east of, Interstate 35.  Winds are forecast to be from the south at 17mph gusting to 28mph by around 5:00PM Saturday, followed by a 30% to 50% chance of rain and possible large hail.  As a result of the weather forecast, this weekend’s planned closure has been shortened by ten hours.

Since the winds are predicted to be from the south there should be no jet departures from Runway 31L, the west diagonal runway.  Air Traffic Control directed deviations from the normal airport traffic pattern may occur to aid flight crews in avoiding known areas of turbulence.

Citizens with inquiries or complaints are encouraged to contact the DFW Airport’s Noise office by email at DFWNoise@DFWAirport.com or call the 24-hour telephone hotline at 972-973-3192.
