FBT Enterprises LLC moving to larger hangar at Richard B. Russell Airport (KRMG), Rome, Georgia

Rome, Georgia - The Floyd County Airport Commission approved on Thursday a new lease for an old hangar at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport.

FBT Enterprises LLC, owned by Fred Taylor, is moving its Beechcraft King Air 200 turboprop plane from a smaller hangar at the airport. Its new hangar was originally built for Georgia Kraft Corp., but the lease has been assigned to various entities through the years.

Airport Manager Mike Mathews said the original 45-year lease still has nine years remaining on it and FBT Enterprises asked that it be extended an additional 10 years. At the end of the lease, the property will revert to the county’s ownership.

Meanwhile, FBT will be improving it.

“We’ll be taking the hangar and upgrading it, refurbishing it,” said Taylor, who heads OTR Wheel Engineering in Rome.

Taylor has agreed to add office space onto the hangar — including a kitchen, a bathroom and a conference room. He’s also planning to make improvements to the roof.

The original terms of the lease mean Taylor will be paying $50 a month for the next nine years. After that price expires in 2023 his rate will be similar to comparable space at the airport, which Mathews said would most likely be in the range of $200 a month.

FBT Enterprises LLC will be responsible for all utilities and taxes on the property during the terms of the lease.
