Aerial View: Forest fires burning along Atlantic City Expressway in New Jersey

WINSLOW TWP., N.J. - April 6, 2012 (WPVI) -- Crews are battling two forest fires adjacent to the Atlantic City Expressway in Camden County, N.J.

Officials tell Action News the blazes were first discovered Friday morning near Winslow Road in Winslow Township.

According to Larry Ragonese, Press Director for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, fire crews are battling two small forest fires.

One fire covers about 25 acres and is 50 percent contained. The second is affecting 100 acres. That fire is less contained.

40 State Forest Fire personnel, including 2 helicopters, are on the scene working to control the blazes.

Ragonese said both fires are located in a Wildlife Management area. No structures, homes or businesses are being threatened at this time. No evacuations have been ordered.

Traffic on the Atlantic City Expressway has not be affected.

Ragonese added that fires like these are not unexpected in this area at this time of year, especially considering recent weather conditions.

Ragonese says these are not controlled burns.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect and fire officials say gusty north winds, 60 degree temperature and low humidity are prime conditions for these fires.
