Arik passenger steals N.25m belonging to another passenger

An Arik Air passenger is now cooling off at the domestic wing airport police station for stealing N250, 000 belonging to another passenger on the same flight.

It was a mild drama yesterday as an Arik Air passenger whose name was with held stole N250, 000 belonging to another passenger on the business class flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja Lagos.

A source who witnessed what happened on the flight explained that the passenger stood up in the aircraft opened the overhead cabin, as if he was searching for missing items in his luggage, but picked the two hundred thousand naira that another passenger kept in the bag.

According to the source, as the said passenger was carrying out the act, he was spotted by some passengers as he attempted to keep the stolen sum into his own luggage.


This development was reported to a crew member of the aircraft who immediately accosted the male suspect, who occupied seat 3C.


As the aircraft with flight number W3 162 ABV- LOS arrived the old domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, security officials of Arik Air handed the lame passenger to aviation security personnel attached to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.


The FAAN security personnel in turn transferred the passenger with the exhibit to the domestic wing police station of the airport for further investigation and possible prosecution.

While confirming the incident, an official of FAAN explained that the authority has been briefed about the incident, maintaining that the matter has been handed over to the police.

In her response on the case, the divisional police officer at the domestic wing of the airport, Fidelia Victor stated  though she has not been briefed on the matter but observed that may be the incident have been reported to the office.

She promised to investigate the matter, explaining that she had just arrived the office from other operations, and was yet to get full brief from her colleagues over the incident.

THERE was a mild drama on an Arik Air flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe  International Airport, Abuja, heading to the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, on Wednesday, when a passenger (name withheld), stole N200,000 belonging to another passenger on the business class.

According to information gathered, the passenger stood up in the aircraft and opened the overhead cabin as if  he was searching for missing items in his luggage, but picked the N200,000 that another passenger kept in the bag.

He was, however, sighted by other passengers while attempting to keep the stolen money in his own luggage.

The crew immediately intervened by confronting  the male suspect, who was said to have occupied seat 3C on the aircraft with flight number W3 162 ABV- LOS.

On landing at the Lagos airport, the suspect was handed over to security officials of Arik Air, who subsquently handed him over to aviation security personnel attached to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), who in turn  transfered the passenger with the exhibit to the domestic wing police station of the airport for further investigation and possible prosecution.

An official of FAAN, who confirmed the development, said that the authorities were briefed about the incident, but added that the matter was being handled by the police.

A staff of Arik Air also confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune on phone.

However, the divisional police officer at the domestic wing station said she was yet to be briefed, though that the development could have been reported to the station.
