Hangar 9 FBO opens at Aberdeen Regional Airport (KABR), South Dakota

Hangar 9 FBO is now operating as a fixed base operator at the Aberdeen Regional Airport.

The business provides services to pilots as well as flying lessons to the public. It sells fuel, performs aircraft maintenance, conducts flight training and offers charter services.

Hangar 9 is owned by Drs. Curt Wischmeier and John Bormes of Ophthalmology Associates. It is managed by Daryl Shook. He previously worked four years for the Aberdeen Flying Service and before that at an airport in Michigan.

Shook said one of the goals of the business is attract young people to flight training. There has been a large decline in the number of private pilots over the years and younger people are needed to replace those who are retiring, he said.

Hangar Nine has provided flight training and other services for sometime but qualified as a full fixed base operator in early January.
