India: Bag found with 105 passports at Delhi airport

"Mishandled" bags containing 105 passports were lying with the Customs at Indira Gandhi International Airport for around a year. But a case was registered with the Delhi Police on Monday after the news leaked.

For around 11 months, the Customs, the Delhi Police and the FRRO have exchanged letters regarding the baggage, but no formal investigation was done. The two bags came in a Turkish Airline flight in February 2011, and the passenger carrying it was identified as Savan Rajnikant Trivedi (23) of Ahmedabad. Trivedi has not been arrested.

Sources said around 90 passports "belonged" to people from Gujarat, while 15 of them bore names of Punjab residents. These have visa stamps of several countries, including Guatemala and Nicaragua.
